The World isn't Totally Going to the Dogs

We live in a time when awful things happen - people blow themselves up, people fight in wars, people starve to death, etc. When you look at all the bad things going on in the world, life seems a bit hopeless. What's the point of being good when nothing you do is going to change anything? Well, there are still lots of good people around us today. For example, up skiing today, we had to park in a snowy spot and it snowed all day. So when we got back, the snow was deep and of course the car had trouble getting out. Some random guy had noticed we were in a tight spot so he came over and just started pushing. That didn't really help so he waved over some other guys and they all helped push and maneuver the car until it was free. All we could do was say thanks. Anyway, the world is going downhill, everybody knows it, but there is still a lot of good to be found wherever you go and I think that's what we should start focusing on.

Christmas break is finally here!

We made it through finals with flying Aces...and maybe some Bces or Cces (I'm speaking for myself here not Rose. I'm sure she got all A's), but it doesn't matter because we're done! I'll have to treasure my few days I have with Rose, however, since she is leaving me for 12 days... :( We want to get as much skiing in as we can before she leaves, but so far it's not working out to well. When the the Snowbird webcam looks like this, you know it's not good:

It's like 7 degrees at the peak with 40 mph winds! All that says to me is a numb, windburned face and numb fingers and toes which equals not fun. And since it's going to be even colder on Saturday, we only have two days to ski together...(one tear just moistened my cheek). But we're going to make the best of it right Rose? Right!

Comment on National Geographic picture

So I was trying to figure out, with my roommate Ashley, how Rose might have found the picture on our first post. We were discussing all of the different things she may have typed into google image search to find that picture. Our ideas ranged from National Geographic to pretty pictures to man and cows and eventually led to the conclusion that she must have typed in man riding antelope. I thought that must be it until Ashley pointed out to me that the man isn't actually riding the animal, he's behind it. Well, whatever it is, the mystery remains. How did you find that picture Rose?

Man riding jackalope, even better!

Looking Back...

So I found some old pictures of Rose and I that I thought would be fun to put up. Proof that our friendship began when we were just babies :)

Historic Awesomeness

So, I learned a really awesome fact today in my Institute class. Our teacher was talking about the beginnings of America and two of the founders, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams. John Adams was originally going to write the Declaration of Independence, but he felt that he had already done enough to alienate people and that Jefferson was a better writer, so Jefferson wrote it. Neither of them knew how important the document would become. Time passed and the two men's political views changed and once close friends, they became bitter rivals. Words were exchanged, actions taken and people offended. After their time in politics, Jefferson and Adams remained enemies until a mutual friend convinced Adams to write Jefferson a letter of reconciliation, which he did and their friendship was renewed. Throughout the remainder of their lives, Adams and Jefferson kept up a close correspondence. The two friends died on the same day, July 4, 1826, the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the last two men to have signed it. If that's not a sign that God approved of the founding of the United States, I don't know what is. That's all I have to say.

Save the Horses

I read in a National Geographic article that wild mustang horses in Nevada may have to be killed because the cost of keeping them alive is too much. Is there a more inhumane way to solve this problem? I think not. Really though, we already herd these animals into holding pens, where they may be adopted or bought, and if not, just live out their lives in a pen. The economy is bad, it's understandable that funding the caretaking of wild horses won't be a top priority, but do we really need to kill them? There must be a better solution. Some people think there should be incentives for people willing to take care of these horses, some think they should be set free again. Whatever happens, death is not the answer. America's heart is not stone.

Holly and Rose

Hola people! We don't even know who would be reading this blog but we hope you will read it and enjoy. Holly and I have been best friends for our whole lives and always have lived in the same city until now because last year she decided to move down to Provo for spiritual edifiducation. So, we decided to create a blog together so we can keep tabs on each other. This is just the beginning!
